One Proud Mama!!!

Today my baby girl received her very first award from school! Each month the entire school works on a character trait, and for the month of October it was responsibility. Now I wasn’t completely surprised when her teachers informed me that she would be receiving this award. You see, over the past two months when I’ve inquired about how she’s adjusting, they’ve enthusiastically shared stories of how capable and autonomous she is.

Watching her go up and accept her award made me realize just how poignant the moment really was. At 3 years old, she was the smallest and youngest person getting an award today and even though she was surprised when they called her name she handled it with aplomb.

Her picture will hang on the school wall throughout the month of November, with the words ‘awarded for responsibility’ written overhead. As I write this, I’m remembering sitting at that ceremony, my heart was bursting with emotion, with a HUGE smile on my face and feeling like one proud mama!

Locally grown organic produce

This summer we decided to introduce our kids to the joys of planting an edible garden.  They have enjoyed a season of running outside and picking fruits and vegetables to munch on at all hours of the day.  Somehow, I thought by the time fall rolled around, there wouldn’t be much produce left in our little plot.  No so!   This morning JD and I went to harvest some of the last fruits and vegetables in our garden.  Here are some pictures of our yield.  Now this is what I call fresh locally grown organic produce!

Fantastic fall foods

I love fall foods! There’s nothing like eating a yummy, warm bowl of soup on a cold, rainy day. What about biting into baked butternut squash slathered in maple syrup or brown sugar. Fall foods are fantastic, just check these out.

The Ex

If you live in Toronto, the closing of the Canadian National Exhibition each year signifies the final chapter of summer. You can sense it’s our last hurrah because people flock through its arches in droves, board its many rides, eat its deep fried mars bars, visit its many vendors and kick up their heels at its concerts. Thanks CNE for 134 years of history and fun.

Au revoir to the dog days of summer!

Hiking to Killbear Point

We’ve been having a wonderful time camping for the past two weeks with our family. One morning, we decided to have a leisurely breakfast then go for a hike to Killbear Point. The morning started a bit rainy but by the time we got to the point, it was stunningly beautiful. What a wonderful way to spend time as a family and explore a little more of our breathtaking country!
