It’s A Wrap

Summer is a time of sun kissed cheeks, teasing breezes, clouds drifting across skies, pool parties, barbeques and picnics with the ones we love. There are so many wonderful things to look forward to in the summer but one thing most of us dread is our Über nemesis…the swimsuit. At the beginning of the year I was certain that if I just applied myself at the gym and cut out junk food from my diet I would get rid of my post baby bulge by this summer. No problem right, after all, I have six months to do it. Well, Buffalo wings, Chinese food, chocolate and ice cream bars have not helped one bit. I have decided to face the facts…it is impossible to look like a Victoria Secret super model in the next few weeks, but I can look like the best me possible. So here goes: if I can’t get a six pack for summer, I will still be looking smokin’. My solution: A wrap! Ingenious you say! Well it is, thank you very much. My way of looking at it is, if you can’t tone it down, you might as well wrap it up in a great package! So step aside swimsuit, there’s a new star in town.

The new life of a former fashionista

I’m a former fashionista forced to budget since I’m now a stay at home mom. However, does that mean that I should doom my kids to a life time of fashion drabness? No, absolutely not! One minute while I get on my soap box…alright I’m ready, thank you for your patience. Now where was I, oh right…no, absolutely not! When I first had my daughter I would stroll along the hallways of my local posh mall checking out all of the adorable little outfits that you know she would rock. I would hold up Mexx Kids, Baby Gap and H&M Baby outfits with my mouth pursed and my eyes narrowed all in an attempt to find the outfits I liked the best. And let me be honest, it was completely and utterly fun!

Fast forward to the future, now I have two kids under two and there is no way I’m spending that kind of money on outfits anymore. However, just because money doesn’t grow on trees, it doesn’t mean momma’s babies can’t look chic. So, I stay on top of what’s hot and instead of strutting down the halls of my local posh mall with a latte in one hand, pushing my red bugaboo stroller in the other, I am now checking out second hand sales, mom to mom sales, craigslist and kijiji. Armed with the seasonal trends seared in my mind, I leap and bound to alternative shops to save the fashion day for me and my kids. Which brings me to my point, if fashion is one of your passions, don’t let budget worries get in your way because there are ways to get fabulous fashion for less, as long as you’re creative.
Here are some of my favourite spring 2011 trends for toddlers. And if you’re now buying second hand clothing like me, remember what Lee Milton said, “people seldom notice old clothes if you wear a big smile”!

Here are some cute fashions for spring 2011 that would work well regardless of your budget.

Rocking out at our Royal Play date

It was so exciting to munch on tea biscuits, scones and cucumber sandwiches as we indulged in all things royal.  We couldn’t get enough of Kate’s spectacular wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen.   We marvelled in the wee hours of the morning before the press pointed it out, just how reminiscent Kate’s dress was of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress and how it was a perfect pick – timeless, classic, stylish and modern.   She was a vision in lace and satin.  But I couldn’t get over just how composed she seemed.  I remember how nervous and excited I was on my wedding day, and I didn’t have millions of people watching my every step and listening to my every word.  Wow, what grace under pressure.

I thought the pomp and ceremony of the day was tastefully ostentatious.  The vows were beautifully said and the kiss…the kiss was touching and real.  I could eat this romantic stuff for breakfast, lunch and dinner (can you tell).   All in all, I’m glad I catapulted myself onto the Royal Wedding band wagon.   It was a beautiful way to spend a morning with my friends: eating, drinking, discussing fashion and being merry.  What more could a girl want!

Royal Hattery

As I mentioned in a previous post, I absolutely love accessories and so my Pre-Royal Wedding whim has taken me to check out cute hats. Here are some of my top picks from the milliner David Dunkley:

And here is Kate rocking her Prince of Wales feathers.

Cheers and Cheerios!
