Fashion and Fun in St. Croix

Dear Epic Readers,

I hope this post finds you well.  As promised, here is the second issue in my Travel Tuesdays series.  So grab a pirate’s punch and let’s hoist off on an epic adventure to St. Croix USVI.

Between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, south-east of Puerto Rico is sunny St. Croix.  It is the largest of the three inhabited U.S Virgins Islands, St. Thomas and St. John being the other two.  Originally it was named Santa Cruz which means Holy Cross and since then it has been given other monikers such as the "Garden of the Caribbean".

The two main towns are Christiansted which has historic Danish architecture and Frederiksted which showcases Victorian architecture. The eastern part of the island has many gorgeous beaches whereas the western part of St. Croix has a small rainforest, sandy beaches and rolling green hills.

Here are two exciting highlights of the island:

Now that you have some background, let’s check out some fashion and have some fun in the sun.

Cheers,

From the beautiful island of St. Croix

Why not travel?

It all started with a one word question, "why?"  My friend and I were having a discussion about travelling.  You see, before we had kids, there’s nothing Dave and I liked to do more than plan a vacation, hop on board a plane and spend as much time as possible running around frantically to see every site the city has to offer.  No town was too mundane for us; we would immerse ourselves in the culture as much as possible so our adventure would feel more authentic than touristy.  So when I told my friend that there is no possible way Dave and I could travel the way we love to, and we were bound to stay at home for the foreseeable future because our kids are toddlers.  He was quiet for a moment then asked me, "Why!" Well that one question sparked a fire in our wandering spirit and before you know it, all the grandparents literally moved into our house to spend quality time with their grandkids. We were shuffled into a taxi, boarded a plane, hopped on a boat, and in two shakes of a rabbit tail we were cruising the high seas.

We decided to do the Southern Caribbean Cruise on the Celebrity Summit.  It was departing from San Juan, Puerto Rico then going on to St. Croix, U.S.V.I.; Basseterre, St. Kitts; Roseau, Dominica; St. George’s, Grenada; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas and then ending in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  And let me tell you epic readers, it was seven days of elegance, relaxation, fun and adventure.

Starting tomorrow, I will be publishing a new series of posts called Travel Tuesdays with Epic Mom.  This project will commence over the next few weeks and will hopefully brighten up your winter days, get you excited about spring break and have you dreaming about the summer.  I will be reviewing the Southern Caribbean Celebrity Summit Cruise, and through posts, photographs and vlogs, it will be like you were practically there yourselves.  So grab a Pirates Punch and let’s hoist off on an epic adventure in the Caribbean.

2012 Fashion Resolution

2012 Fashion Resolution

Happy New Year Fashionistas!

As we look at our bills from the Christmas season, we can’t help but make that dreaded resolution to cut back our expenses in the New Year. That means averting our eyes from the sale signs beckoning in store windows and convincing ourselves that we don’t need that gorgeous coat that’s 40% off. Well sisters, I’m here to help you stay strong. Grab a latte and let’s talk about some fall 2011 key fashion pieces that you most likely have in your closet. These five pieces are simple and chic, yet they’re dynamic enough to take you strutting into the spring season with style.

  1. Peter Pan Collar (here’s a hint, think removable collar)
  2. Tuxedo Jacket (classic Marlene Dietrich, a feminine yet strong look)
  3. Wide Leg Pant (a comfortable staple whether worn in wool or denim)
  4. High Slit Dress (whether it’s a valentine’s dinner with your beau or going to the opera, this takes evening wear to a more saucy level)
  5. Leather Harness Detailing (a little edge to your look goes a long way)

As for accessories, the doctor’s bag is still quite popular. And don’t forget, beauty goes hand in hand with fashion. So dress your lips with a beautiful coral colour; it seems to be the beauty experts colour of choice, just remember to choose the right shade for your skin tone. Well it’s been a blast my friends. Go forth, save money, look fabulous!!!

Ciao for now,

From the friendly fashionista

A review of Simons E-store

You can now shop the hottest styles and trends in men’s and women’s clothing, designer clothing, fashion accessories and home decor from your very own home. Simons, one of the biggest clothing retailers in Quebec with stores in Montreal, Quebec, Laval, Saint-Bruno and Sherbrooke, has recently redesigned their ecommerce store.

The pros of their new look according to Epic Mom are as follows:

  • I thought it was a great new website. It looked clean, modern and well organized.
  • I absolutely loved their home section, especially the Deco by La Lingere line.
  • I was very excited to note that they have after hours support by both online chat and by e-mail.
  • I like the thumbnail list of the last items that I viewed and I liked the quick view option.
  • Another plus for me is that they deliver anywhere in Canada.

The cons of their new look according to Epic Mom are as follows:

  • I would have liked a scroll to the top button on the bottom of the page (like on Pintrest), I found it quite tedious to scroll back up myself every time I checked out a new section.
  • It would have been nice to have a check box next to every item so you can add the items that you like to your wish list without leaving the categories (like dresses, skirts etc) or having to go to the quick view.
  • I would also like to be able to use check boxes to compare items to see which ones I like best.
  • Instead of the static featured image heading (eg. Women/ Holiday Chic), it would have been more interesting if they had a series of photos featuring their trending items in the heading as a slider (like in their Lookbook section).
  • Finally, I quite liked the YouTube videos and wished that they were more visible on the website. My favourite was the tie series with Sascha Blick.

All in all, the Simons ecommerce store has a great new design. It’s functional yet fashionable at the same time. It has an easy clear layout and with a few tweaks, they can even further improve their customer’s online shopping experience.
