Jesus is my Homeboy!

So there I was chillin’, just kicking it with J.  Telling him about how things have been going.  From the mundane to the sublime, I shared all my baggage.  At certain points he was shaking his head at me like, “Girl, you’re so crazy!”  At other points, I had him in stitches laughing his head off.  He cried when I shared some painfully poignant parts of my life.  He looked on patiently as I went over some pertinent information that was just crucial to the overall tale.  Dude, at one point we even had a jam session (me on the vocals while he whistled like the wind).  It wasn’t even uncomfortable when we sat together in silence.  Hanging together felt natural; it felt right.  And that is when it truly hit me.  Jesus is my homeboy!

WWJD Baby

I had a bit of a dilemma today and so I turned to the Word.  Turns out, I need to show more grace.  So I will attempt to ask this question whenever I am faced with a difficult situation…WWJD (what would Jesus do?)  Then I need to take it a step further…and this is the hard part…I need to take Jesus’ promptings.  This will not be easy but it is necessary for growth.  So let’s do this (I say with vast trepidation), o.k let’s try it again…let’s do this!

When your kids are sick

As a parent, there is absolutely nothing worse than a sick child.  It’s hard watching them when they are lethargic, throwing up, or when they have bouts of diarrhea.  Seeing them like this, all you want to do is wrap them in a blanket and scoop them up in your arms.  You want to take such good care of them.  You can’t wait for them to look wonderful, healthy, and strong again.  Elizabeth Stone said, “Making the decision to have a child is momentous.  It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”  Well, watching your sick child is like having your aching bleeding heart walking around outside your body.  You do the best that you can, but sometimes you feel helpless.  And that’s the worst feeling in the world.

As a parent, you can’t wait to see your child kick that cold, flu, virus or disease.  You can’t wait for them to be hundred percent again.  And you find yourself praying for their incessant questions of ‘why’, and their continual demands of ‘again’.  And when this happens, you will feel completely exasperated, but you will also feel eternally grateful.  So here’s to a healthy child.  Parents, there is no better feeling in the world.
