Today my baby girl received her very first award from school! Each month the entire school works on a character trait, and for the month of October it was responsibility. Now I wasn’t completely surprised when her teachers informed me that she would be receiving this award. You see, over the past two months when I’ve inquired about how she’s adjusting, they’ve enthusiastically shared stories of how capable and autonomous she is.
Watching her go up and accept her award made me realize just how poignant the moment really was. At 3 years old, she was the smallest and youngest person getting an award today and even though she was surprised when they called her name she handled it with aplomb.
Her picture will hang on the school wall throughout the month of November, with the words ‘awarded for responsibility’ written overhead. As I write this, I’m remembering sitting at that ceremony, my heart was bursting with emotion, with a HUGE smile on my face and feeling like one proud mama!
