Life is short, so live your dreams

Life is short. The good news is, it’s not too late to start working on your dreams and goals. What did you always want to do? What did you want to be? What’s on your bucket list? Is it time to ignore all those limiting beliefs that tell you that you can’t do it. Because…you totally can! Again, life is short. You don’t know how many tomorrows you have. Maybe it’s time to start living your dreams now, not someone else’s.

A little love

I believe Valentine’s Day should be celebrated every day. It shouldn’t be a day where you celebrate being a couple, eating chocolate and drinking vino. Instead, it should be a mindset of caring for and loving the people in your life every single day.  Part of loving the people in your life is figuring out how they need to be loved best. Gary Chapman has simplified this significantly by providing ‘The 5 Love Languages’ quiz.  The idea is that while all of us speak and understand all 5 love languages, there are usually 1 or 2 that are our main language.

Personally, I’m a big believer in knowing your love language and the language of your family and friends. Trust me – just ask any of my girlfriends who I’ve strongly encouraged to take the test. I first found out about this test in my early 20s and promptly quizzed my mom and sister so I could figure out how to love them best.  Since then, I’ve quizzed my hubby, extended family, friends, and even my kids.  So what are these 5 love languages, you ask?  Well my friend, here they are:

1. Words of affirmation: what is spoken or written means the most to these people.

2. Acts of Service: for these people, actions speak louder than words.

3. Receiving Gifts: giving and getting gifts make them feel most loved.

4. Quality Time: it’s all about undivided attention and presence.

5. Physical Touch: to this person, nothing speaks more deeply than appropriate touch.

Sometimes you’re able to figure out people’s love languages just by reading the description provided above. You might be able to see that your hubby values quality time, or it makes your mom happy when she makes you cookies, or your best friend in the world loves to get great big hugs. Still, I’m challenging you to do it.  Grab a cup of something warm, take a few minutes, and invest in your relationships. 

I think that the best gift that you can give this Valentine’s Day is to find out your love language and those of your loved ones. Back to basics

 

I love basics. There, I said it. Yes it’s fun to jazz up my look with great colours and accessories but to me, there’s something exceptional about a well made basic.  A simple black dress, a striped shirt, ballet flats, a crisp white button down blouse, tailored pants. Love it, love it, love it.  I’ve always thought that Audrey Hepburn wore that look well.  Would like to know how you define your style. Setting goals with grace

So often we jump in feet first with resolutions, I’m going to go down 2 dress sizes before Valentines Day, I’m going to exercise every single day, I’m going to stop that bad habit and never pick it up again. Can I make a suggestion? Instead of saddling yourself with a New Years resolution, how about marrying your goals with grace!

What if you chose 3 things that you would incorporate more of, instead of taking things away. Psychologically, you’d be more inclined to continue doing it. For example, you could choose to start your morning by meditating, praying or saying 3 things you are grateful for. You can choose to go for a walk or get a breath of fresh air on your lunch hour. You could choose to make a list of your action items for the next day, every night before bed. The idea here is to declare a life where you add value to your daily existence. That way, instead of focusing on deprivation, you’ll instead focus on your abundance.
